About Me

Hi, I’m Eliza! I’m a homeschool graduate from Boise, Idaho. I love reading, music, math and chocolate. Currently I’m living in the Los Angeles area for college, where I’m studying worship arts and media. Fun facts about me: I taught myself to play piano when I was young and have since learned violin and cello, though piano remains my favorite. I love reading Christian fantasy and historical fiction, and some of my favorite book series are The Lord of the Rings and The Wingfeather Saga. In fact, I wrote my senior thesis on the power of stories. When I’m not in class or playing music with a worship team, I enjoy going to my local library, writing letters, and playing board games.
I’ve always enjoyed playing music with other people: I spent two years playing in a homeschool orchestra in high school, and I’ve been playing violin on our worship team since I was 14. I never thought I’d be working with kids, but when a friend asked me to teach her kids music, I realized it was a talent that I could use to help others. I spent three years teaching private lessons in piano and violin to elementary school children, and it’s so rewarding. I love that moment when something clicks for the student and they realize how much progress they’ve made!
During my time teaching music, I also gained experience in tutoring, specifically math and reading. Combined with my experience at Brain Balance, where I worked with students of a wide spectrum of ages and challenges, I’ve built a unique skillset that allows me to understand and interact with kids in many different contexts and subjects.
